I have tried all the other methods that have worked for other people
it works for my girlfriends account on the same mac just not for me.
I cant think of anything else to do can somebody please help me?

FWIW, I have the same porblem and have done exactly the same as you. Problem still exists. No solution as of yet.
Figured out problem, you also have to setup notifications on iPhone to alert when a map is sent from Maverick OS Maps. This worked for me.
How do you set up th3 notifications alert on the iPhone so it recognizes a map sent from Mavericks OS?
The only notifications I can find for maps is google maps, apple maps isn't in my notifications list?
My iPhone looks exactly the same. Google maps but no Apple Maps in the Notification Center. Can anyone help?

Turn your iPhone off and back on, and try again. It mysteriously worked for me. Before that I didn't have an option for Maps in the Notificaiton Center; afterward, it was there.
YES! this worked, cant believe i didn't try it, i still have no option for Maps in notifications but on my macbook i can now send directions to my phone 🙂
*UPDATE* I can now see maps in Notification Center it's at the bottom of the list.
Turned my iPhone 4x times Off/On, no Maps visible in Notification settings. Google Maps, Navigon, all there, just no Maps.
The notifications seems to be sent (at least I get no error message in Mavericks-Maps), but it's never received on the phone.

Finally! I've logged out (deleted) of my iCloud account on the phone and re-logged in - works. Maps is now in the Notifications list, and I get the push notification from Mavericks-Maps.
Any more on this issue? I can see my phone in the Share button in Maps, all my notifications are enabled on my iPhone, etc., but I never receive anything. I end up simply using send with Messages instead.
Running 10.9.3 and 7.1.1.
